Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four initial break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
